JOB SUMMARY |
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley, in partnership with Terros Health, will address the mental, behavioral, and physical health needs of children and youth and their families, by integrating the Whole Child Approach Program into Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Maricopa County. The program provides comprehensive, evidence based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curricula, and integrated behavioral health services. The program model includes trauma-informed approaches and age specific therapeutic activities that support life skills, academic achievement, communication, and healthy lifestyles. The WCA Nutrition & Healthy Lifestyle Coordinator is a Grant Funded position and is responsible for providing education to members around the benefits of a healthy foods, a balanced diet and leading an active lifestyle. The position will develop and facilitate nutrition education activities, that may include: presentations, cooking classes, field trips, panel discussions, planning and/or evaluating menus, food tasting sessions, question and answer sessions, gardening, etc. This position rotates between multiple BGC locations. |
JOB RESPONSBILITIES |
- Encourages BGCAZ “Rules of Engagement” and incorporates into day-to-day interactions and management of staff

- Works with and implementing Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle programs by organizing and teaching nutrition and physical activity lessons mentioned above at multiple BGC sites
|
- Establishes and maintain effective relationships with youth and teens, parents, and Youth Development Professionals
|
- Maintains safety and management of youth and teen members in the program
|
- Maintains an environment that promotes cooperation, positive learning, and models BGCAZ’s program quality standards.
|
- Encourages high participation of members and track attendance of each program.
|
- Completes electronic weekly reporting regarding member attendance, information given out, anecdotal information, and other important data.
|
- Assists Program Manager and the site staff in their implementation of on-going nutrition education at each site.

- Leads daily program preparation such as supply set up, room set-up, take-down
|
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION |
- Must possess a HS diploma or equivalency certificate and 6 months’ experience working with organized recreation, child care, or school programs with youth age 5-18 in a group setting.
- Must obtain/maintain CPR & First Aid certification (within first 90 days of employment).
- Must obtain food handlers card (within first 90 days of employment)

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS |
- Basic food and nutrition knowledge
- Knowledge of high-quality youth development and management practices
- Ability to plan, organize and teach nutrition and physical fitness in youth group setting
- Ability to articulate FFI, BGC’s approach to positive youth development, principles of program planning & delivery, and Branch planning and assessment.
- Knowledge of diverse healthy lifestyle programs, continuous quality improvement and program evaluation
- Ability to maintain and cultivate Branch relationships and possess communication and customer service skills
- Ability to interact effectively and communicate (in writing and orally) with a variety of members, local government entities, neighborhood groups, agencies, schools and volunteers.
- Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
