Job Description

The Chief of Staff is the key thought partner to the CEO and senior leadership team (SLT) and oversees BGCAZ’s strategic projects.  The Chief of Staff is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with all levels of staff throughout BGCAZ and externally with Board members, donors, partner organizations, business leaders, municipalities and school districts.  Working alongside the CEO & SLT, the Chief of Staff uses a variety of systems and tools to assist BGCAZ solve complex problems, leverage business acumen, strategy and data to help steer conversations and decision making across the organization. The Chief of Staff is a true collaborator who will drive key strategic initiatives to support BGCAZ’s Vision: To be the premier out-of-school provider in Arizona, ensuring our Club Kids have the skills and resilience to successfully navigate childhood and prepare for adulthood. 


  • Provides support and serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external constituents on all matters pertaining to the CEO


  • Serves as a conduit and advisor on major projects to assist CEO with leveraging time constraints, reducing roadblocks, increasing impact and accelerating progress


  • Identifies opportunities to engage the Board on strategic issues/high priority topics and follows up according with assisting CEO with draft agendas and communication for the Board, committee and task force meetings


  • Encourages BGCAZ “Rules of Engagement” and incorporates into day to day interactions with staff  


  • Identifies opportunities for leadership collaboration, alignment and coordination for a unified approach to BGCAZ’s community and partnerships


  • Performs analysis and strategic consultation on major issues impacting BGCAZ and participates as a leader/member in a variety of committees and cross-functional task forces.


  • Partners with the leadership team to manager annual and quarterly planning processes to ensure alignment with strategic plan and priorities. 


  • Maintains collaborative working relationships with staff across the organization, Board members and volunteers


  • Develops and maintains partnerships and collaborations with other non-profits, BGCA, state and municipal governments, school districts and other partners to build relationships that help BGCAZ achieve its strategic plan and goals 


  • Represents the CEO’s office at meetings when required and appropriate 


  • Manages day to day office operations/communications that pertain directly to the CEO



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College/University
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role working closely with internal/external stakeholders
  • Minimum of 5 years experience leading work teams or projects to achieve objectives, solve problems and improve processes


  • Demonstrated ability to lead work teams and generate ideas to solve problems and achieve results
  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to successfully manage CEO’s active calendar 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and provide all logistics (to include technology and documentation preparation) for     meetings as assigned by CEO
  • Effective operational and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to develop and implement comprehensive action plans and reports to support leadership’s strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct multiple activities with varied deadlines and deliver in a     timely manner
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex information and recommend creative, practical and high impact solutions under stressful conditions and time constraints
  • Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to adapt to and support change across BGCAZ
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively while demonstrating emotional intelligence in all workplace interactions
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to articulate for giving, serve as an ambassador, engage in relationship building and promote philanthropy
  • Ability to support the efficiency of Volunteers and future workforce needs to support volunteer program operations



  • Travel between BGCAZ Branches, schools and community sites is required
  • Work is performed in our Program Services Center-Administrative offices
