JOB SUMMARY

The AmeriCorps member is responsible for building partnerships between families, schools, and Clubs for the benefit of the program participants. The AmeriCorps member provides educational support, including tutoring and small group mentoring to children in grades K through 12 in the areas of reading and math. The member will be required to commit and engage for a in a highly focused program (Program Achieve) and with a specific target group. AmeriCorps members will bring continuity and fidelity into academic-focused Club programming, which includes implementation of the Summer Brain Gain curriculum during the summer months. Curriculum is comprised of weekly thematic modules that build to a final project or event, including mandatory literacy and STEM-focused projects. Short term, measurable outcomes for the program will consist of:  Club Attendance, Academic Achievement and Grade Progression.

Type of Enrollment: 1) Three quarters time (1,200 hours)

 

JOB RESPONSBILITIES

  • Maintains academic remediation through providing one-on-one tutoring of individualized instruction
  • Provides individual and small group tutoring & mentoring
  • Ensures that participants have focused time allotted to program focused on reading, writing, STEM projects, goal setting and team building activities
  • Monitors agreements established by youth/teen’s family to boost attendance
  • Recruits at least five (5) volunteers from the local community with the assistance and support of BGCAZ’s Volunteer Coordinator
  • Attends a minimum of 12% of service hours obtaining training and orientation
  • Attends training on first aid, CPR, character education, academic remediation and communication and conflict resolution
  • Completes training modules to include, but not limited to: Unconscious Bias, Communication Styles, Coaching for Accountability and Facilitating Academic Success
  • Attends AmeriCorps sponsored trainings, staff meetings and events

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

  • High School diploma or equivalent


WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING

  • Members will be expected to work an average of 10- 35 hours a week 
  • Members will be expected to work on-site for this role at an identified BCGAZ club
  • Members will be required to pass the National Service Criminal History Check (NSCHC) which includes the following background checks: fingerprinting, FBI & State background check and NSOPW.gov check


ELIGIBILITY

  • Be 18 years or older at the start of service 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, or lawful permanent citizen 
  • Cannot have been convicted of murder or listed on the NSOPW
  • Individuals who have already served 4 terms are not eligible
