JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting/Payroll Specialist manages and supports the Organization’s accounting transactions and maintains standards of performance.     In addition to ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, this position will prepare and maintain accounting documents and records. The Accounting/Payroll Specialist manages the processing of payroll for the Organization and assists the Senior Accounting Director in the implementation of accounting policies and procedures throughout the Organization.

JOB RESPONSBILITIES

  • Entering financial transactions while ensuring that accounting records are up to date and completed in a timely manner

 

  • Verify and record attendance, hours worked and pay adjustments

 

  • Process payroll bi-weekly to ensure timeliness and accuracy of employee paychecks and preparing periodic payroll reports

 

  • Verify taxes and other deductions, track employee PTO and sick time

 

  • Responsible for invoicing, recording and reconciling all incoming payments including but not limited to mail, online payments, check-in systems, direct deposits, and credit cards.  

 

  • Serve as backup for Account Payables invoices and disbursements

 

  • Manage the Organization asset inventory, including internal audits and training

 

  • Prepare school grant budgets and subsequent billings and reporting according to AZ Department of Education guidelines

 

  • Manage Finance Department’s filing and record retention system to ensure data integrity

 

  • Prepare reports and assist the Senior Accounting Director with preparation for annual audit and other audits as needed

 

  • Identify and implement systems to ensure daily accounting functions run accurately and effectively

 

  • Assists with onboarding and training of staff regarding Accounting policies and procedures

 

  • Encourages BGCAZ “Rules of Engagement” and incorporates into day to day interactions with staff  

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

  • Minimum of Associate's degree from an accredited college/university in Accounting

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel power-user)
  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting and account reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and FASB rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct multiple activities with varied deadlines and deliver in a     timely manner
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex information and recommend efficient, practical and high impact solutions/systems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively while demonstrating emotional intelligence in a confidential setting.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING

  • Travel between BGCAZ Branches, schools and community sites is required
  • Work is performed in our Program Services Center-Administrative offices
